Why arcade racers still beat sims on mobile
There's a place for hardcore racing sims, but it usually isn't a five-inch screen. On mobile, the arcade racer wins almost every time, and it's not close.
Arcade racing is about immediate, readable fun — boost, drift, corner, repeat. Neon Drift League leans fully into that, and the tilt controls actually made me feel connected to the car rather than fighting a tiny wheel.
The trick with these games is short tracks and quick rematches. A racer that makes you sit through a two-minute lap on a phone is asking too much of your attention span.
My advice for anyone getting into them: turn on tilt if you can stand it, because it adds a physicality that buttons just can't match. It feels wrong for a minute and then it clicks.
Sim racing will always have its devoted crowd, but for the phone, give me neon lights, a fat boost meter, and a corner to drift around. That's the good stuff.
